Wizz Air, a Hungarian budget airline in Europe, launched its first Istanbul flight on Tuesday 28 March. A welcome reception was held at Gate D5, on the International Arrivals floor at iGA Istanbul Airport, in honour of Wizz Air's first flight, which took off from Luton Airport in England.
Wizz Air has launched its flights to iGA Istanbul Airport. The carrier's first flight to iGA Istanbul Airport took off from London Luton Airport. It was reported that the carrier's second flight is scheduled for take-off from Gatwick Airport on Tuesday 28 March.
iGA Istanbul Airport hosted a welcome reception for Wizz Air's first flight. Majid Khan, Director of Cargo and Logistics at iGA Istanbul Airport, and Marion Geoffroy, Managing Director at Wizz Air UK, attended the reception.
It was stated that with Wizz Air launching its flights, there are now 84 airlines flying to iGA Istanbul Airport.
The Budapest-based fast-growing airline, founded 18 years ago, has the largest aircraft fleet in Hungary. The carrier operates in many cities in Europe, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates. Apart from Luton and Gatwick Airports, Wizz Air is expected to operate flights from Hungary's capital, Budapest, and Iaşi, Romania, to Istanbul in the coming days.
Speaking at a press conference held at the hotel in the International Departures area of iGA Istanbul Airport in January, Evelin Jeckel, Wizz Air's Chief Network Officer said:"We will launch four new routes from Europe to Istanbul. We have never flown to iGA Istanbul Airport before. We are thrilled to be here."
