SyrianAir, the national flag carrier of Syria, is resuming flights to Istanbul after a long hiatus. Flights from Damascus to iGA Istanbul Airport will operate five days a week.
iGA Istanbul Airport, the global hub connecting the world to Türkiye, is now welcoming SyrianAir—the national airline of Syria—as it resumes its Istanbul flights after a long break.
The first flight from Damascus International Airport to iGA Istanbul Airport is scheduled for Tuesday, June 10, at 7:30 PM.
Speaking at the welcome ceremony held at iGA Istanbul Airport for SyrianAir's first flight, Fırat Ocak, Commercial Director of iGA Istanbul Airport, described SyrianAir's resumption of flights to Istanbul after a long hiatus as an important development both for the aviation sector and for regional connections:
"With the Damascus-Istanbul flights scheduled five days a week, air transportation between the two countries is being strengthened once again, and we are proud to offer our international passengers a wider flight network at iGA Istanbul Airport. Today's flight is not only the beginning of a new route but also a symbol of reestablished ties, growing partnerships, and shared opportunities. We hope that SyrianAir, which has joined the iGA family as our sixth new airline partner this year, will increase regional mobility and offer our passengers more options."
The company, which was forced to largely suspend its operations due to the civil war that began in 2011 and international sanctions, resumed domestic flights in December 2024 and international flights in January 2025.
Flights from Damascus to iGA Istanbul Airport will operate five times a week—on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—using Airbus A320 aircraft.
Founded in 1946, SyrianAir began operations with domestic routes as Syria’s first and national airline. Since the 1950s, it has expanded to regional and international destinations, becoming one of the prominent airlines in the Middle East.
