As one of the world's most important global transfer hubs, iGA Istanbul Airport is commemorating July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day with special events that symbolize the Turkish people's commitment to democracy and their struggle for independence. As in previous years, the exhibition organized in collaboration with the July 15 Foundation features very special works that depict how the Turkish people asserted their will, defended democracy, and resisted control, showcasing their love for the nation and country. The Air Traffic Control Tower at iGA Istanbul Airport will also be illuminated in the colors of the Turkish flag, symbolizing the glorious democracy victory of the Turkish people.
In his opening speech at the exhibition, iGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen emphasized the importance of sharing the democracy epic written by the Turkish people on July 15 with the world. He stated, "As always, we are proud to host the July 15 exhibition at iGA Istanbul Airport." As the iGA family, we continue our work with a steadfast commitment to our country's values, democracy, and independence. On July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day, we organize a variety of meticulously prepared events each year, striving to keep the spirit of national struggle and independence alive in the collective memory. Our exhibition is a testament to our social responsibility, our commitment to our country and nation, and, of course, our gratitude to our martyrs. That's why it's so special. On this occasion, I respectfully and gratefully commemorate all our veterans and martyrs, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who gave their lives for our country's independence.”
İGA Istanbul Airport CEO Selahattin Bilgen:
"That night, our nation stood against the coup plotters who threatened our democracy and independence. All of Turkey united as one. By resisting the traitors, we protected our nation's independence and indivisible unity. This brave and honorable stance remains in our memories as a rare example of struggle in history. Those who filled the streets and squares that day, disregarding their own lives, crushed those who aimed to threaten our national independence and the very existence of our country. The stance displayed on July 15 was a reflection of the spirit of national struggle. "And thus, we demonstrated not only to the traitors among us but to the entire world that the rare consciousness of democracy, along with freedom and independence, is inherent in the character of the Turkish nation," he said.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, İsmail Hakkı Turunç, President of the July 15 Foundation, said:
"In the treacherous coup attempt, our nation was targeted, our country was targeted, and our democracy was targeted. On July 15, Turkey faced a coup attempt, a series of terrorist acts, and an invasion attempt. On the night and morning of July 15, the power of our nation surpassed the power of tanks, helicopters, and planes. On July 15, we once again demonstrated to both friends and foes that when it comes to the unity of the homeland, the future of the nation, and the independence of the state, we stand together in solidarity. Yes, no matter what they do, they will not be able to divide our nation, break apart our country, or prevent our star and crescent flag from waving in the skies. A strong and great Turkey will continue to be the hope of the oppressed."
The exhibition was attended by Istanbul Airport Civil Administration Chief Assoc. Dr. İlker Haktankaçmaz also participated.
