As one of the leading airports in the world, Istanbul Airport has been presented with consecutive awards from prestigious institutions and was selected as the 'Airport of the Year' at the Air Transport Awards ceremony, which evaluates and presents awards in 14 different categories within the aviation industry and is known as the only international aviation award in the world.

Istanbul Airport is bringing together all the works that stand out with the value they give to culture and art at iGART. Within the scope of iGART, which will unite Istanbul's identity immersed in culture and arts as well as the cultural memory of Anatolia with the rest of the world, artists are given the opportunity to showcase their work through an exhibition, a workshop, and a live music performance held at Istanbul Airport.

Istanbul Airport was granted a '5-Star Airport' award after an evaluation by Skytrax, one of the most important aviation institutions in the international arena. Thanks to the measures it took against COVID-19, Istanbul Airport became one of only two airports in the world to be certified with the '5-Star COVID-19 Airport' rating as well as the '5-Star Airport' rating.

At the 16th ACI Europe Awards, hosted by the Airports Council International, Istanbul Airport was awarded 'Europe's Best Airport in Digital Transformation (ACI)'.

Istanbul Airport has become the first airport issued with a 'Zero Waste Certificate' within the scope of the 'Zero Waste' project carried out by the Ministry of the Environment and Urban Planning with the aim of preventing waste and using resources more efficiently.

Having successfully completed the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 10002 Customer Satisfaction Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, ISO 27001 Information Security Management System, and ISO 50001 Energy Management System at Istanbul Airport, iGA was awarded a certificate by the international certification organization, the British Standards Institution.

Istanbul Airport’s 3rd independent runway aimed at increasing the airport’s landing and take-off capacity has been inaugurated with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The opening ceremony also covered the inauguration of the recently completed state guesthouse and mosque.

“A Monument of Victory: Istanbul Airport” – a documentary film narrating Istanbul Airport’s story from its initial stages of gestation to the airport’s shift to operations at full capacity in just 42 months – met the audience on Sunday, the 31st of May 2020.

The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has officially registered Istanbul Airport’s terminal building as the “largest LEED certified building of the world” in line with the principles of sustainable development.

Istanbul Airport surpassed the International Passenger Income of EUR 233.1M that was guaranteed by DHMI for the airport’s first operating year, as result of which iGA made EUR 22.4M extra payment to the state.

Istanbul Airport achieved a significant milestone and hosted its 50 millionth passenger. In the special ceremony, our esteemed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the esteemed First Lady Emine Erdoğan presented a plaque to our 50 millionth passenger and his family.

Istanbul Airport celebrated its first anniversary with the slogan “We are 95+1 years old”. Istanbul Airport hosted various celebration events and ceremonies at the terminal because of its own 1st anniversary and the 96th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey.

Istanbul Airport celebrated the boarding of the 10 millionth passenger with a surprise event.

The first commercial flight started with Istanbul-Ankara flight of Turkish Airlines. The first flight was with Boeing 777 of Turkish Airlines at 11:30.

The city of Istanbul embraces Istanbul Airport on 95th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.
21 June
Airplane named "TC-ANK" has landed in Istanbul Airport. Its first passenger was Turkish Republic President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
28 February
Having a length of 3,750 meters and a width of 60 meters, the first runway at Istanbul Airport is lit up for the first time.
8 December
The last conveyor in the 42-km long baggage system is installed and the system is now ready for the opening.
26 October
Ahmet Arslan, Minister of Transport, Maritime and Communication, inaugurated the foundation-laying ceremony for Istanbul Airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower designed by Pininfarina and AECOM. Winner of the 2016 International Architecture Award, the tower will have a height of 90 meters and the rough construction will be completed in 2017.
8 January
Installation of the first part of space frame roof for piers at Istanbul Airport is now underway. Construction continues at full speed in the terminal building of Istanbul Airport, which, when completed, will become the largest airport in the world 'built from scratch'. The roof of the structure which spans over an area of 145,000 square meters excluding the roof of the terminal building pier is defined as a space frame roof area.
19 October
iGA signed a loan agreement worth €4.5 billion with Ziraat Bank, Halkbank, VakıfBank, DenizBank, Garanti Bank and Finansbank to finance the first phase of Istanbul Airport. Participants at the ceremony included President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu, numerous senior bureaucrats, iGA Board members, and senior managers of creditor banks.

iGA signed an Operations Consultancy Services Agreement with Seul Incheon International Airport Corporation and Copenhagen Airports International.
21 January
iGA and Unifree DutyFree signed the world’s biggest duty free deal for a term of 25 years.

A foundation-laying ceremony was held for Istanbul Airport.

Tender for Istanbul New Airport held in Ankara. The Joint Venture formed by iGA investors was awarded the tender with a bid worth €22.152 billion + VAT.
