High School Students Flies to Their Dreams with İGA

The pre-selection process is completed for the “Istanbul Inter-High School Model Airplane Competition” sponsored by İGA - Istanbul New Airport. 31 students who qualified for the training program to be held at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) attended the first class on April 24. 


İGA Airports, Istanbul New Airport contractor for construction and operation, completed the first stage of the “Istanbul Inter High School Model Airplane Competition” in collaboration with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate for National Education and Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Students from all public and private high schools in Istanbul participated in this competition where 31 students qualified for the training program.

Meeting the students on the first day of the classes, Yusuf Akçayoğlu, CEO at İGA, said: “The first quarter of 2018 will witness a new airport opened in Istanbul, which will represent the biggest project constructed throughout the Republican history. IGA will complete the construction of this airport and assume its operation for a period of 25 years. In the meantime, we are planning to conclude a series of work that will add value to our aviation industry. The first Model Airplane Competition organized for the youth is a part of this mission. We will turn this competition into a tradition in the future and offer the youth opportunities to make their dreams come true.”


ITU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özkol also expressed his delight at participating in such a special project and wished the students success.

Award Ceremony on June 5

After splitting into five groups, 31 students will attend trainings to be held in April and May at ITU Ayazağa Campus and design their model airplanes. Theoretical sessions will be delivered by ITU academicians and engineers specialized in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. Training program will continue with group studies. At the end of this program featuring step-by-step design and building of a model airplane, students will be reevaluated by a jury. In the final round of competition, students will fly their model airplanes before the jury on June 5, at ITU Stadium. Top three groups with the highest points will be awarded.

All winners will have a chance to see the construction site on a helicopter flying over the area and be appointed as project interns.
